18th December: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 8/1

While the current climate might be playing havoc with the football schedule, we hope to have another stacked list on our hands this weekend. So, for those of you who are looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday December 18th

BST 15:00 Aston Villa vs Burnley

Starting with Saturday s hosts, putting in what was another professional display earlier in the week, Aston Villa have really found an immediate boost since Steven Gerrard made his arrival last month. While the Midlands outfit might have found themselves in the midst of a real struggle when heading into November s international break, they have come roaring back. Last seen away at Carrow Road and landing a deserved 2-0 victory against relegation scrappers Norwich, the mood around Villa Park should be at a real high. Winning four of their six Premier League matchups under the former Rangers boss, their only defeats have come against Liverpool and defending champions Manchester City. With the likes of Ollie Watkins enjoying his own boost of late, Villa should be smelling a real chance to keep up their momentum on Saturday afternoon. On the flip side, having their midweek meeting against Watford called off only hours before kick-off, Burnley will know that they could face a stern test on the road. Still sat two points adrift in the drop zone, Sean Dyche s men have collected just a single Premier League win since opening the 2021/22 campaign. Last seen on their travels getting hit with a 1-0 loss against Newcastle, we re backing a similar outcome here.

Tip: Aston Villa win under four goals @ 7/5

15:00 Blackburn Rovers vs Birmingham City

Storming their way to what was a stunning display on the road last weekend, Blackburn have only continued to shock almost everyone across the Championship so far this season. Last seen claiming an eye-catching 2-0 victory away at top-two contenders Bournemouth, Tony Mowbray s men are in the midst of a stellar purple patch. Skyrocketing their way up the table and now leading the chase in the play-off hunt, another win on Saturday afternoon could move them within a single point of the automatic promotion spots. Gaining a host of plaudits, the former West Brom has seen his side win each of their last four Championship matchups on the spin, including a 4-0 romp against Peterborough last month. Losing just one of their last 10 outings, Blackburn have also continued to shine with their displays at the back. Keeping a clean sheet in each of their four consecutive victories, Mowbray s men will be relishing Birmingham s arrival here. Having to settle for a 2-2 draw against a struggling Cardiff at St. Andrew s last weekend, Saturday s guests have won just one of their previous six Championship outings. Last seen on the road getting hit with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Millwall, we re backing a similar home victory for the second-tier high-flyers.

Tip: Blackburn Rovers win @ 10/11

17:30 Leeds United vs Arsenal

Starting with Saturday s guests, while Arsenal might have endured a tricky week behind the scenes, the Gunners showed no signs of a problem as they ran rampant earlier in the week. Putting in a hugely impressive display at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta s men secured a deserved 2-0 victory against West Ham, a result that pushed them into the Champions League spots. With their sights firmly set on securing a European return this season, the north London outfit should be riding a real wave. Finding a way to build off of last weekend s 3-0 win against Southampton, there is no doubt that Arsenal should be smelling another golden chance here. Although Saturday s visitors might have shown some extended problems on the road, they will be boosted by an extended unbeaten run against Leeds. Including a 4-2 victory when they made the trip to Elland Road back in February, the Gunners are unbeaten in each of their last 10 straight meetings against the relegation scrappers. As for Marcelo Bielsa s men, suffering what quickly turned into an Etihad nightmare earlier in the week, the Whites will know that they could face another stern test here. Eventually hit with a 7-0 drumming at the hands of Manchester City, that result was Leeds worst ever Premier League defeat. It should also be noted, Saturday s hosts have won just a pair of their last 11 contests, a run that stems back to October 2nd.
